Automating processes in geoinformatics

In the field of geoinformatics Simon Schuffert automated complex processing steps by which spatial data is collected, processed and presented. Within the scope of process automation he extracted roof planes from 3D surface data, linked solar power yield values with suitable roof surfaces and created solar roof cadastre.

He developed an independent shadow analysis software. This software analyzes large areas of digital 3D surface data and examines possible shading taking into account the daily and annual cycle of the sun. In order to process large amounts of vector and raster data quickly, he uses techniques, with which the data are evaluated in parallel on multi-core processor systems.

The diagram shows an exemplary processing chain. The individual steps are the data preprocessing of the raw data, the parallel data analysis, storage of processed data in a database and the presentation of data by the end user on a "thin client".
