Die Arbeitsgruppe Umwelt- und Geoinformatik des Instituts für Photogrammetrie und Fernerkundung entwickelt innovative Geoinformationsmethoden und deren praktische Anwendungen. Sie verbindet Fernerkundung, Geoinformatik und Maschinelles Lernen zur Lösung realer Herausforderungen in den Bereichen Umwelt, Infrastruktur und Risikoprävention und arbeitet dabei eng mit Behörden, Kommunen und Infrastrukturunternehmen zusammen.

Forschungsschwerpunkte

Die Arbeitsgruppe konzentriert sich auf die automatisierte Analyse von Fernerkundungsdaten mittels Deep-Learning-Verfahren für Veränderungserkennung, Objektklassifikation und (Hyper)spektrale Bildanalyse. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Biodiversitätsmonitoring durch Integration von Satellitendaten, Citizen-Science-Daten und ökologischen Messverfahren zur Erfassung von Biotoptypen. Ein weiterer Fokus ist die Erfassung urbaner Hitzebelastung – die fernerkundungsbasierte Bestimmung thermaler Komfortbedingungen und Hitzerisiken im städtischen Raum. Daneben entwickelt die Arbeitsgruppe Methoden der 3D-Geoinformation und Augmented Reality für Visualisierung und interaktive Analyse sowie Verfahren zur Vulnerabilitätsanalyse kritischer Infrastrukturen mit bodengestützter Radarmesstechnik, bildbasierter Überwachung und GIS-gestützter Risikoanalyse gegenüber Naturkatastrophen und Klimawandel. Ein weiterer Bereich ist die Entwicklung von Geodateninfrastrukturen mit Datenmodellen, semantischen Modellierungen und Webservices zur Integration heterogener Geoinformationen sowie die Zusammenarbeit mit Behörden bei Datenerfassung, -aktualisierung und -verwaltung.

Methodische Ansätze

Die Arbeitsgruppe nutzt Deep Learning und Convolutional Neural Networks zur automatisierten Fernerkundungsanalyse, Photogrammetrie und 3D-Rekonstruktion für präzise Erfassungen sowie Sensor-Fusion aus optischen, thermischen und Radardaten. Besonderheiten sind die Citizen-Science-Integration zur kostenefizienten Datenerfassung, semantische Modellierung zur Verbesserung der Dateninteroperabilität und GIS-gestützte Analyse zur Vulnerabilitätsbewertung.

Forschungsteam

PD Dr. rer.nat. Sina Keller leitet Forschungen zu Machine-Learning-Verfahren für Geoinformationsdaten, spektraler Analyse, Vulnerabilitätsanalyse kritischer Infrastrukturen sowie zum Monitoring von Biodiversität und urbaner Hitzebelastung. Sie ist aktives Mitglied im Center for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Technology (CEDIM).

Dr.-Ing. Jens Leitloff spezialisiert sich auf die automatisierte Analyse von Satelliten- und Luftbildern für praktische Anwendungen wie Fahrzeugerkennung, Veränderungserkennung und Katastrophenmanagement.

Dr.-Ing. Sven Wursthorn entwickelt Methoden der 3D-Rekonstruktion und Augmented Reality als Querschnittstechnologien für Bildverarbeitung und Geoinformation und verbindet klassische Photogrammetrie mit modernen Visualisierungstechniken.

Zusammenarbeit und Lehre

Die Arbeitsgruppe realisiert ihre Forschungsergebnisse in praktischen Projekten mit Vermessungs- und Katasterbehörden, Planungskommunen, Naturschutzbehörden und Infrastrukturunternehmen. Dabei entstehen operative Systeme zur Datenerhebung und -aktualisierung sowie innovative Planungshilfen und Monitoringverfahren für Risikovermeidung, Hitzewarnung und Biodiversitätsschutz. In der Lehre vermittelt die Arbeitsgruppe theoretische Grundlagen und praktische Erfahrungen mit modernen Methoden der Geoinformatik, Fernerkundung und des Maschinellen Lernens.
